Fishing in the City

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife's Fishing in the City program brings fishing to people who have never had a chance to grip a rod and reel or cast a line into the open water. Volunteers who work with the Fishing in the City program are helping people learn to fish by untangling lines, bating hooks and showing new anglers how to cast. The statewide program brings the fun to the communities with a day of fishing at a local park, where everyone has access. Program volunteers show up with fishing equipment, helpful instruction and support for those learning the ropes. While they help everyone who has come out to enjoy a day of fishing, volunteers find a special type of satisfaction in mentoring the curious new comers who are enjoying the outdoors.
